SUTD: a university built around design and technology

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is one of Singapore's six autonomous universities, focused on design and technology and known for a hands-on, project-based approach. Undergraduates begin with a common first-year 'Freshmore' curriculum before specialising, so students build a shared foundation in mathematics, science, computing and design before choosing a degree.

The degree pillars you can choose

After the Freshmore terms, students specialise into one of SUTD's degree pillars, each combining engineering, design and computing in a different way. All students also take compulsory Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) courses throughout the curriculum — HASS is a shared requirement across programmes, not a separate degree pillar. How SUTD assesses applications

SUTD describes its process as more than grades: alongside academic qualifications, applicants complete additional application components that let them show how they think, create and solve problems. This can include written responses and design or portfolio-style tasks, so applicants should prepare examples of their projects and interests.

Entry qualifications and English proficiency

SUTD accepts a wide range of international school-leaving and pre-university qualifications, including A-Levels, the IB Diploma and various national examinations, and each qualification has its own indicative requirements published on the SUTD site.

As teaching is in English, most international applicants provide English-proficiency evidence such as IELTS or TOEFL unless their prior education was English-medium. Verify the accepted tests and required scores for your programme on the official SUTD site.

Application windows, fees and the Student's Pass

SUTD opens applications for international qualifications on a published annual schedule, and applicants with different qualifications may have different windows. Prepare transcripts, English test results and application components well before the deadline.

Like other Singapore universities, SUTD publishes tuition by programme and citizenship, and international students can apply for the MOE Tuition Grant, which carries a service bond. After accepting an offer you must obtain a Student's Pass from Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
