What is NCHM JEE?

NCHM JEE (National Council for Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination) is the national entrance test for admission to the B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration (B.Sc HHA) programme at Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

The examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of NCHMCT. Qualifying the NCHM JEE is the primary route to seats at the IHMs, which are among the most recognised hospitality institutes in India.

Eligibility

Candidates who have passed Class 12 (or an equivalent qualifying examination) from a recognised board are generally eligible to apply. Some IHMs may set age limits or additional eligibility conditions — these are published in the official information bulletin each year.

Confirm the precise eligibility — including any minimum-percentage requirement, age conditions, and whether the current year allows students appearing in Class 12 to apply — on the official NTA portal before applying.

Exam format

NCHM JEE is a computer-based test (CBT). The question paper covers English language, reasoning and logical deduction, numerical ability and analytical aptitude, general knowledge and current affairs, and aptitude for service sector. The exact number of questions, total marks, duration, and marking scheme are published in the official notification each cycle.

NTA has adjusted the exam duration and number of questions in recent cycles, so always refer to the current-year information bulletin on nchmjee.nta.nic.in for the latest format.

Institutes and programmes

IHMs affiliated with NCHMCT are spread across India and offer the three-year B.Sc HHA programme. After completing B.Sc HHA, graduates may pursue M.Sc Hospitality Administration or other postgraduate programmes, or enter the hospitality industry in food production, front office, food and beverage, housekeeping, and related areas.

Private hotel management institutes may not require the NCHM JEE score and run their own admission processes. Check each institution's own admission portal. Career outcomes in hospitality vary widely by employer, location, and individual; there are no guaranteed placements.

Counselling and seat allocation

After results are declared, NCHMCT runs a centralised counselling process for seat allocation across IHMs. Candidates must register for counselling separately and submit their college and programme preferences.
