What JEECUP counselling is

JEECUP — the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh — conducts the centralised online counselling for admission to polytechnic (diploma) programmes across Uttar Pradesh. Given how large the UP polytechnic applicant base is, this is a high-volume, group-based counselling.

Your JEECUP entrance rank is the entry point; counselling is the separate process that converts that rank into a specific polytechnic-and-branch seat through jeecup.admissions.nic.in. You register once and take part in a series of allotment rounds instead of applying to each polytechnic individually.

Candidates are counselled within their eligible group (JEECUP organises courses into groups), so your choices are drawn from the courses your group qualifies you for. The exact schedule, rounds and fees are set fresh each cycle, so use this as the process map and confirm current specifics officially.

Step 1 — Registration and counselling fee

The process starts with online registration on the JEECUP counselling portal within the announced window. You log in with your JEECUP credentials, confirm your details and category, and pay the counselling/seat-acceptance fee online (net banking, card or UPI, as enabled).

At registration you also confirm your eligible group and any reservation or state-quota claim, since these determine which courses and seats you can be allotted. Keep your rank card and documents ready.

The fee amount and the registration deadline are set each cycle and the fee is generally non-refundable, so pay only after confirming the current figure and window on the official notification.

Step 2 — Group-wise choice filling and locking

After paying, you fill your choices: within your eligible group you add multiple institute-and-branch combinations and arrange them in genuine order of preference. Because choices are group-bound, you will only see courses your group qualifies you for.

The allotment engine works top-down through your locked list and stops at the best seat your rank, group, category and seat availability allow. Ordering therefore decides your outcome — put the seat you most want first and add enough realistic options to reduce the chance of going unallotted.

Once arranged, you lock your choices. Locked choices are what the system uses for allotment, so review them before the window closes. Verify the choice-filling and locking deadlines on the official schedule.

Step 3 — Seat allotment across rounds and phases

Seats are allotted round by round on the basis of your rank, your locked choices, category and seat availability. JEECUP counselling is generally conducted in multiple rounds, sometimes organised across phases, with results published after each round for you to check by logging in.

When allotted a seat, you respond within the deadline — typically by confirming the seat and, where offered, choosing whether to hold it as final or stay in for a later round. Read the official round instructions for the exact options, as they can change year to year.

Step 4 — Document verification, reporting and mop-up

An allotment is provisional until you complete document verification and reporting at the allotted institute (or as instructed for the round). There your originals — JEECUP rank card, class 10 (and, where required, class 12) mark sheets and certificates, photo ID, and any category or domicile documents — are checked to confirm eligibility before admission is finalised.

If a claimed category or eligibility does not match your documents at verification, the allotment can be affected, so make sure everything you declared is backed by valid originals.

Seats left vacant after the main rounds are usually filled through later/mop-up rounds for eligible candidates. If you have not secured a preferred seat, follow the mop-up notification.
