Test für Ausländische Studierende (Test for Academic Studies)
TestAS (Test for Academic Studies) is g.a.s.t.’s aptitude test for international applicants to undergraduate programmes at German universities. It combines a Core Module (digital) or Core Test (paper-based), which measures general study-related cognitive abilities, with one Subject Module: Humanities, Cultural Studies and Social Sciences; Engineering; Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences; or Economics. Life Sciences and Medicine are also offered in the digital format. You take it in German or English at a licensed test centre. Many German universities use TestAS in admission and some require it, but each decides whether and how the result counts, so check the university’s own admission page. In China it can only be taken within the APS procedure, and in Vietnam it is mandatory in the APS procedure for applicants without a university degree; in India it matters where a German university requires it. The certificate has no expiry date.
Frequency
Several dates a year in two formats. The 2027 worldwide schedule lists paper-based sittings on 25 February, 24 April and 23 October, and digital sittings on 18 March, 15 June and 25 November.

Score range
Digital: TestAS Score 0–200 for each module and 0–400 overall, plus a percentile rank (1–100). Paper-based: standard score 70–130 and percentile rank (1–100), reported separately for the Core Test and the Subject Module.
