What the UAE student visa is

To study in the United Arab Emirates as an international student, you normally hold a student residence visa. According to the official UAE Government portal, a student can stay in the UAE either under the sponsorship of the accredited university or college where they study, or under the sponsorship of a parent who is a UAE resident.

The university's student affairs office typically facilitates the visa process once you have a confirmed admission, so begin by asking your institution what it handles and what you must provide.

Sponsorship and duration

The UAE Government states that a student residence visa is generally issued for one year at a time and is renewable for a similar period on proof that the student is continuing their studies, issued by the educational institution. The exact conditions and any age-related sponsorship rules are set by the government and can change.
