There is no single fixed path

Investment banking is a competitive field, and people enter it from several backgrounds — commerce, economics, finance, engineering, and others. There is no single official qualification that makes someone an investment banker; instead, a mix of strong academics, relevant skills, internships, and qualifications tends to matter.

Common routes and qualifications

Many enter through a strong undergraduate degree followed by an MBA from a well-regarded business school, while others build credibility through qualifications such as the CFA or CA, or through finance-focused master's degrees. Internships in finance and a solid grasp of accounting, valuation, and markets are commonly valued.

Skills that matter

Roles are limited and highly competitive, and no course, coaching, or guide can guarantee a job or a particular salary. Be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed placement or specific packages, and plan based on building genuine skills over time.
